Born in 1986.
She lives and works in Dallas (USA).
Before devoting herself fully to painting, Abi Salami worked in public finance for more than a decade, after obtaining a Master’s degree in Accounting at the University of Texas.
A self-taught artist, her work explores the beauty and essence of black womanhood in a positive way. This resonates with her own background: having grown up suffering from depression in a traditional Nigerian family, she had to overcome this forbidden and taboo subject. After suffering in silence for years, she is now dedicated to using her creativity to benefit others. “I realised that you can use art to address such heavy topics as mental health without embarrassing people.”
In 2020, she was shortlisted for the Saatchi Award for an artist under 35. Her work is on display at the Women’s Museum, the African American Museum of Art in Dallas, and Viridian Artists Inc. in New York, among others.
