RANCINAN
Gérard Rancinan
03.04 – 05.06.2016
The exhibition ‘RANCINAN’ is the inaugural event of the new space dedicated to contemporary art at the Montresso* Art Foundation in Marrakech.
The photographer Gérard Rancinan has been bearing witness to his time for forty years. The Montresso* Art Foundation presents this vision on our society, accompanied by a reflection by the author Caroline Gaudriault.
The work as a whole tells a modern story. It begins with portraits staged in the form of an artistic performance with Fidel Castro, John Paul II, Rauschenberg, Balthus, Lichtenstein, Hermann Nitsch, Yan Pei Ming… The story continues with documented frescoes and simulacra of a barely fantasized reality of the contemporary world. The photographs, of monumental size, are taken with an analogue camera.
For his first solo exhibition on the African continent, Gérard Rancinan presents a monumental photograph measuring 9*13 m, exhibited within a site-specific installation. The exhibition is one of the highlights of the Marrakech BIENNALE 2016 of which Montresso* is a partner.
Exhibition presented from 03 april to 05 june 2016 at Montresso* art space
