Far from being confined to one form of expression, Dominique Zinkpè’s singular style is affirmed by a multidisciplinary practice: intimate, audacious, sometimes provocative.

« Divines Mascarades » takes us into the labyrinths of his creation. No doubt alluding to our human comedy, Dominique Zinkpè reveals a series of drawings in which mischievous characters, halfway between human and animal, mingle. Sharp fingers, tortured bodies, torn flesh: it is in a sort of organised chaos that the artist, as if to give an account of what is most bestial in man, touches on caricature.

Animist culture certainly feeds his inspirations. These twirling geniuses, disarticulated like rag dolls, are evidence of a certain syncretism. These evocations of voodoo ceremonies are in fact initiation rituals. For it is the opening to knowledge, that of the human soul, which is undoubtedly at the heart of Dominique Zinkpè’s approach.
